It’s important that as of 25th May, you know that the way we look after your personal data satisfies the new rules under the Europe-wide General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) about the way we collect and hold your information came into force.

As a result of GDPR, we have updated our privacy notice. The changes don’t alter the way we use and protect your personal information, but make it easier for you to find out how we use it and your rights in relation to data protection.

The purpose of this policy is to explain to you how we control, process, handle and protect your personal information while browsing or using this website, or by submitting your contact details for the purposes of receiving our newsletters, including your rights under current laws and regulations. Processing of your personal data

We are exempt from registration in the ICO Data Protection Register because Legal Voice Limited is an organisation which was established for not-for-profit making purposes and does not make a profit and we only process information necessary to establish or maintain support or provide information to individuals about access to justice such as through our newsletters.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) we control and/or process any personal information about you electronically using the following lawful base.

Lawful basis: Consent
The reason we use this basis: where individuals have chosen themselves to provide us with their contact details to enable them to receive newsletters.
We process your information in the following ways: The data is held and processed securely through an email marketing service provider (EMS).  It is used solely for the purposes of sending subscribers our information e-newsletters.
Data retention period: We will continue to process your information under this basis until you withdraw consent or it is determined your consent no longer exists.
Sharing your information: We do not share your information with third parties.

If, as determined by us, the lawful basis upon which we process your personal information changes, we will notify you about the change and any new lawful basis to be used if required. We shall stop processing your personal information if the lawful basis used is no longer relevant.

Under the GDPR your rights are as follows:

We handle subject access requests in accordance with the GDPR.

We use cookies on this website to provide you with a better user experience. We do this by placing a small text file on your device / computer hard drive to track how you use the website, to record or log whether you have seen particular messages that we display, to keep you logged into the website where applicable, to display relevant adverts or content, referred you to a third-party website.

You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement or policy applicable to the website in question.  If you have any concerns about this we suggest you do not click on any adverts or links found throughout the website.

Clicking on any adverts or links may result in our tracking your actions by using a cookie saved to your device. You can read more about cookies on this website above. Sponsors and advertisers may remunerate us under a contractual marketing agreement.  However, we are not paid any commission or other fees when users click on the links.

We use advertising sponsors in these ways to help generate the funds required to operate the website, which allows us to continue our not for profit work and provide you with the best overall experience and valued information.

Email marketing messages & subscription

Under the GDPR, we use the consent lawful basis for anyone subscribing to our newsletter.  We only collect certain data about you, as detailed in the “Processing of your personal data” above. Any email newsletters we send are done so through an EMS, email marketing service provider.  An EMS is a third-party service provider of software / applications that allows companies to send out email campaigns to a list of users.

Email newsletters that we send may contain tracking beacons or similar server technologies in order to track subscriber activity within email messages (such as which pages of our website are being accessed). Where used, such messages may record a range of data such as; times, dates, I.P addresses, opens, clicks, forwards, geographic and demographic data. Such data, within its limitations will show the activity each subscriber made for that email campaign.

Any email newsletters we send are in accordance with the GDPR and the Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations. We provide you with an easy method to withdraw your consent (unsubscribe) or manage your preferences / the information we hold about you at any time. Our EMS provider is Mailchimp. We hold the following information about you within our EMS system;
